Words to Know

Fable:  A fable is a story that features animals who are given human characteristics, and that teaches a lesson (moral)


Satire: The use of humor, irony, or exaggeration to expose and criticize stupidy, fault, or absurdity. 


Allegory: A story that represents larger events or a larger idea.  For example, Animal Farm is an allegory for the 1917 Russian Revolution


Utopia: A society that has reached political, legal, and cultural perfection.

Comrades: Companions in a common cause

Tyranny: Cruel and oppressive government rule


Vice: An immoral or evil habit or practice

Irony:
  • Situational -  involving a situation in which actions have an effect that is opposite from what was intended, so that the outcome is contrary to what was expected

Totalitarianism: A form of government in which the ruler has absolute power.
